Hey it’s yer boy who lost thousands shorting a dumbass sandwich shop in 2023, here to point out why shorting SPCX before the lockup ends is a bad idea (in the short term)
The CAVA setup was similar to SPCX. In late 2023 the invisible hand of the market was about to give CAVA insiders a full release. CAVA’s IPO lockup expired on December 12, 2023 and 97 million insider shares became eligible for sale.
Following some “Due Dilligemce” (lol) on this sub I got puts. Everybody will cash out haha I am very smart!
\[checks notes\]
On lockup expiration day, the stock surged 19–20%, closing around $38.87, after trading near $32.50 the prior day. One week later, shares had climbed 30% from their pre-lockup level. Not a goddamn insider sold. Happily, with my money, a hedge fund manager who sold me puts was able replace the wedding ring he left in the stripper.
So careful out there. I’m like your mom with my hands on a tiny bag (20 shares), hoping for a little rise but ready for disappointment. May load the boat next week.
