This chart represents a strong lesson for today’s AI/Semi/memory investors. I’ve seen a lot of ppl reacting differently to the recent crash in these stocks.. many have become baggies while others are playing it cool because their unrealized investment return is still green or they are “still up big.”
It seems that right now, a lot of people think they're "safe" because they have a low cost basis. So did plenty of people who bought the Nasdaq in 1997-they were sitting on huge gains before the dot-com crash. Some still ended up waiting 5+ years just to get back to breakeven, and late-1999 buyers waited 15 years.
Remember, cost basis doesn't protect you from a major drawdown if you don't take profits!!! Even those that once felt like geniuses with 400%+ unrealized gains for some, eventually felt like stooges when it all disappeared and they themselves became bag holders for years to come.
Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered!
