Summary
The post celebrates a 38-year hold of Ross Stores (ROST) by the author's mother, turning $3,813 into over $4 million after stock splits.
The author’s unstated thesis is that disciplined long-term buy-and-hold investing in a quality retailer can generate extraordinary returns.
This is personal anecdotal evidence, not due diligence or analysis; it is noise with no current market assessment.

Here we have 500 shares of Ross Dress For Less purchased by my mother for $3,813.50 in 1988; after splits now 16,000 shares(1) which just broke $4 million, a gain of 102,000%(2). And it only took 38 years!
There must be other long-term holders here who have broken 100,000%. If so, please share!

1. ROST split five times between 1997 and 2015, making the original 500 shares now 16,000.
2. The basis stepped up on my father’s death in 2009, when the holding was worth about $200k, so the basis that Schwab shows here is from that date.
