announcement. the market is telling elon something he doesn't want to hear. tesla announced a $25 billion plus investment plan this week leading stock to fall 18%. think about that ,a company announces its investing $25 billion in its own future and the market wipes out more than that in market cap in response. the signal is pretty clear that investors dont trust that the $25 billion generates returns that justify the cash flow hit and given what tesla's cash flow looks like rn thats not an irrational read. So imo robotaxi, optimus, the energy business are the long term thesis and ig the problem is the sequencing. Tesla is being asked to fund multiple massive capital programs simultaneously while its core auto business is under margin pressure from chinese competition and elon's political activities have alienated a meaningful chunk of the customer base that used to be its natural audience. $25 billion in capex is a bet that all of those things resolve favorably at the same time and the market looked at that bet and said no thank you at current prices. The contrast with alphabet this week is stark as google cloud backlog hit $500 b and cloud revenue surpassed expectations and same week tesla is getting punished for spending, alphabet is getting rewarded for spending because the market believes the returns The diff between good capex and bad capex is whether you can show the customer on the other end of it,alphabet has $500 billion in contracted backlog and tesla has a $25 billion plan and a robotaxi launch that keeps getting pushed. does the cash flow math not work at any price until the robotaxi business is real?
