SK Hynix’s listing on the U.S. market is aimed more at entering the U.S. market itself—such as resolving the “Korea discount”—than at raising capital.
To this end, SK Hynix retired 2.1% of its shares in January 2026. The plan was to first cancel shares on the Korean stock market and then reissue the same number of shares on the U.S. stock market.
At that time, 2.1% of Hynix’s shares was worth approximately $8.5 billion, but the stock price more than tripled during the five months leading up to the U.S. listing. As a result, the same number of shares is now worth $29 billion.
