Summary
The author argues that Chipotle (CMG) is overpriced, quality has declined, and a food poisoning incident at a local store signals a repeat of past outbreaks; he plans to short the stock ahead of the July 29 earnings report.
Thesis: foot traffic is falling (citing free bowl/burrito promotions), employees are careless, and the stock will crash to $13 EOY.
Quality assessment: Noise – purely anecdotal personal experience with no financial data, historical comparisons are weak, and the $13 price target is extreme.

Chipotle is overpriced and quality is trash. Recently I bought some for my friends and we ended up with food poisoning. I believe it is only a matter of time before another large food poisoning outbreak happens like in 2015 and 2018. Also, the manager at the chipotle would charge us extra chicken when we asked for just a little more. The employees at that location would spill some of each vegetable or protein all over the counter mixing everything. Adding on, the recent free bowls and burrito promotions show that their foot traffic is declining. I believe that earnings on July 29th will be way lower than expected and it will go to $13 a share EOY.
Position: Shorting 300 shares on Monday along with 9/18 $30 strike puts. Will consider shorting more as I visit Chipotle locations locally and observing foot traffic.
The author claims one Chipotle location gave him and his friends food poisoning, and that similar incidents historically hurt the stock. This, combined with perceived declining foot traffic and negative customer service, leads him to expect a major earnings miss on July 29. Short 300 shares and buy $30 strike puts (9/18 expiry) based on a belief that CMG will drop sharply. Community comments indicate many locations are still busy and the brand has a loyal customer base; past food scares didn’t permanently damage the stock. If earnings beat, short squeeze pressure is high.
