First of all, blockade of Strait of Hormuz is an Iranian leverage, Trump literally calls it a blackmail. It is what the Iranians want, so it makes no sense why US would blackmail / self sabotage themselves. It is NOT a strategy to pressure Iran.
Then the only reason left is market manipulation. By putting up a US blockade, Trump created a situation where he is in control (TACO anytime), so that his Billionaire friends can buy low and sell high.
One scary thing about this (I don't think is likely Trump will TACO), is if the blockade last long enough, the oil price + inflation will crash the market, like the economy is already really bad for normal people, the normal people would be forced to liquidate their stocks in order to survive causing a even more severe crash. Guess who is unaffected by all of this? The Billionaires, they can then use their idle money to buy up the discounted assets completing a wealth transfer, from the poor to the rich.
