A bit of a story here. My washing machine broke yesterday with a bunch of really stinky and soiled clothes in it. I take care of my mom and that happens from time to time. We're fortunate enough to be able to buy another one that will be installed in e few days. Until then I need to figure out how to get these clothes washed. So I took them to a laundromat I've been passing during my commute and oh boy do I feel bad for anyone without a washing machine.
First they only take cash that needs to be loaded on card. In 2026 if you're not getting cash from your bank then you have to buy something at a grocery store or gas station just to get cash back. When I return with the cash I realize they charge you a dollar for the card itself. There is also a sign that they don't allow any cash back from the card. I did hear some one mention while I was there that they couldn't find their card which likely means they're out the balance of the card plus another dollar for a new card.
While I was waiting on my clothes to finish I'm just thinking about how these small fees can really add up for someone income strained.
