Time and time again investing subreddits turn massively bearish right before a bottom, as they reflect the overall sentiment in the market. They're often extremely bullish at the highs for the exact same reason. The trades that are highly upvoted are generally crowded consensus trades, and the companies discussed are the companies everyone is looking at.
Why do people bother reading these subreddits outside of determining sentiment? The entire way that the Reddit voting system works means that the popular posts are by definition the opinion of the crowd.
