I've been trading for 3.5 years. First two years I just lost money. Next 15 months were a break-even phase where I realized mindset was the problem. Last 3 months it finally clicked. Up 230% with over $80k profit.
Most of it is psychology. People see a strategy, say "got it," and just blindly apply it. No backtesting, no forward testing. Soon as they hit a drawdown, they panic because they don't actually trust a system they haven't tested. They want a 100% win rate that doesn't exist. When a trade fails, they trash the strategy and look for the next holy grail, ignoring that risk to reward is all that matters.
The market exposes who you are. You need discipline to only take your setups and sit on your hands the rest of the time.
Once I got my head straight, I stopped guessing. I trade a hard checklist now. All 6 steps need to happen or I stay in cash:
HTF bias. Check the daily or 4H trend. Intraday has to match.
Liquidity sweep. Mark overnight, Asia/London, or previous NY highs/lows. Wait for a sweep. No sweep, no trade.
FVG or OB. After the sweep, price needs to pull back into an unmitigated FVG or order block.
V-shape reversal. I want to see a sharp rejection right off that level.
Target. Know the exit before entering. Target the opposite untouched liquidity.
Entry. Wait for an inversion FVG to form during the reversal. That's the trigger.
Logic is just smart money sweeping one side to target the other
