My Dad passed away in 2011, and I sheepishly admit I know nothing about stocks or estate or anything. My Mom and I tried to take care of everything, but my Dad was a very secretive man and no matter where she searched in the house he appeared to have no will, no trust, no lawyers name, no estate anything.
Over the years I've found bits and pieces that have gotten us vital money to keep ourselves a float as I am the legal next of kin. Ive been wondering if he ever took stocks or if they are still even there after this whole time but she doesn't know where to look or how to find out.
Is there a way to find this info IF any stocks he own still exist?
(If you know any other way to find other non-stock stuff related to this please lmk as well, we've never been in a position on our own to afford a probate lawyer and he died when I was so young I honestly didn't think there was anything else to hire one for once I got the initial pension plan.)
