I'm a beginner and I've never invested before. I don't see myself managing stocks much in my future, I'd like to just "set and forget.". General advice for anyone in my situation, but especially a beginner, is to just buy an index fund.
However, I can't help but wonder if buying any of these larger MAG7 companies would be a good alternative to that. Stocks like Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft(these are the 4 stocks I'm mainly interested in, I don't like the rest of the MAG7) are often described as index funds on their own as they provide long term stable growth. And these stocks outperformed the market in most of our recent history. It's especially tempting to buy them now on a discount.
I understand that holding these stocks over a long term is more volatile. I'd say I have a little higher risk tolerance. And it's not like I'm completely clueless about these companies. I work in tech, and I like how they're positioned currently.
So what advice would you give to a beginner investor like me?
