Closed my short on Google this morning, but stock is still an underweight position

- Google faces significant headwinds due to competition from AI products such as ChatGPT, Claude. - Google experienced a 20% decline in search traffic YoY in January. - In 2025, Google's earnings remained resilient due to a strong digital ads market, allowing them to place more ads at higher prices on a smaller volume of searches, as well as Cloud growth. - This may change in 2027, as OpenAI expands its ads program, and competes directly with Google for digital ad sales. - Google has a wide range of potential outcomes. While search revenues are at risk, other areas represent an opportunity. While it is unclear if Waymo will be able compete against Tesla long term due to an unfavorable supply chain and inefficient design, Cloud & TPUs represent an opportunity with uncertain upside. - Google would be best off spinning off Waymo while the market is assigning favorable valuations to high growth, low profit industries. At $340, Google was deeply overvalued enough, such that I determined that shorting became justified. At <$300, the wide range of potential outcomes make it a significant risk to short. However, the stock is still an underweight due to the risks faced and relatively high valuation; OpenAI's entry into the digital ads market is likely to drive ad prices down, and Search continues to face declining traffic as users continue to switch to ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok. The only real reason worth investing in Google is for their cloud/TPUs.
