I am fairly new to options trading. Been selling cash secured puts for about 3 months now. Yet to be assigned.
I generally only want to do this with stocks I am comfortable holding long term if I do get assigned, at the CSP strike price. Not chasing premiums on stocks I dont want to actually own.
Mostly these first 3 months I have been watching people who do youtube videos, and going with stocks they recommend, after doing my own research on them.
What I was curious about from those who have been doing this a while... when running a scan/screener on finviz or TOS or TV, etc... what filter options do you use to identify the stocks that you want to target?
Ive set up some basic screeners with the following settings:
Average volume over 1M
Market Cap over 2B
PE under 75
RSI under 40
1 year trend is positive
Once I have a list that fits that criteria, I focus on stocks under $30 a share as my account is smaller for now. I will try to pick a strike price at or near the 200 day MA, hopefully the 6-12 month chart shows a few instances of support at that level.
Anyway, my current scanner outputs well over 100 stocks, and if I start analyzing them, many show pretty quickly not to be a candidate for what I want.
So, what other filters are people using to get a more trimmed down list of stocks that have a higher likelihood of being good wheel candidates?
TIA
