Sweet Green or $$$$$$WEEEEETTTTT GREEEEEN$$$$$$$

Been digging into Sweetgreen (SG) after the Q3 fallout and trying to decide if this is a real value opportunity or just a well-disguised trap. Comps were rough (-9.5%), traffic down double digits, margins compressed, guidance cut again. The headline numbers are ugly. But the balance sheet is clean: * No debt * \~$214M cash * Just sold Spyce for \~$186M (paid \~$70M) * Slowing unit growth to preserve capital On the operating side, restaurant-level margins have actually improved over time (mid-teens to \~20% at peak, now back closer to low teens). Restaurant costs as % of revenue have come down structurally over the last few years. So at the store level, it’s not completely broken. The real issue looks like SG&A. When SG&A sits near 40% of revenue, the valuation falls apart. If it tapers toward the mid-20s over time, operating leverage starts to show up quickly. So the question isn’t just “are comps down?”, it’s whether corporate overhead normalizes or stays structurally elevated. Revenue growth slowed from 24% to 16%, not great, but not implosion either. If they can stabilize traffic and get restaurant-level margins back into the 16–18% range while bringing SG&A down, the math changes meaningfully. The bigger debate to me is traffic: Is this cyclical (macro pressure, younger consumer stretched, pricing fatigue)? Or structural (value perception broken, concept peaked)? I am not a healthy person and have never been to sweet green tho... From my perspective it just looks corporate is wasting money while their restaurant side is solid. So what is this? A) Early-stage turnaround with a clean balance sheet and operating leverage B) Structurally flawed concept that expanded too fast (like wtf my start up didnt get funding but mfs selling salads did?) C) Mid-tier restaurant caught between fast casual and premium, never quite either (no market fit when you got cava, chipotle, etc) Curious how other value folks are seeing this. Is the SG&A bloat temporary investment spending, or evidence the model just doesn’t scale cleanly or is management just acting stupid and hopefully plan on changing soon. Would love to hear both bull and bear takes.
