I know everyone’s investing journey looks different, but I’m trying to figure out a solid way to start as a beginner.
Background:
I’m a college student working a part‑time job, and I graduate this December. I don’t have a 401(k) or any investment accounts yet, and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get a full‑time job after graduation.
Here’s the plan I’m thinking about:
Open a HYSA and put in $1,000
Open a Roth IRA through Fidelity (invested in the S&P 500) and start with $300
Open a Robinhood brokerage account with $200 in VTI and a small amount in a single stock, maybe Apple.
My question is: Does this seem like a good way to start? Should I wait on opening the brokerage account until I have a full‑time job? Since I’m only working part‑time right now, I’d only be contributing small amounts to these accounts for the time being.
