Hi everyone,
I’m trying to get more systematic about using ChatGPT (and other AI tools) to *identify* potential stock opportunities (not to blindly “buy what the AI says”). My goal is to build a repeatable workflow that helps me generate a quality watchlist and then do the real due diligence myself.
**What I’m looking for from the community:**
1. Prompts you actually use to screen or surface ideas
2. Your AI workflow (steps + tools: filings, investor decks, earnings transcripts, screeners, etc.)
3. The key indicators / signals you prioritize when searching for companies (quality, value, growth, special situations, etc.)
4. How you avoid “AI hallucinations” and force source-based, verifiable outputs
**A few angles I’m exploring (feel free to critique):**
* “Build me a watchlist from official sources only, then summarize what to verify”
* “Extract KPIs from filings/transcripts and compare across peers”
* “Red flags checklist (accounting quality, leverage, dilution, customer concentration, etc.)”
* “Catalyst hunting: guidance changes, capex cycle inflections, insider buying, regulatory events”
**Questions:**
* What’s your best prompt for idea generation or opportunity discovery?
* Do you use AI more for screening, summarizing, or deep research?
* Which metrics are non-negotiable for you? (e.g., ROIC, FCF margins, debt ratios, revenue quality, unit economics, TAM realism, etc.)
* Any recommended tools/sites you pair with AI (screeners, EDGAR, company announcements, etc.)?
If you’re willing, please share:
* Your exact prompt(s) or a template
* The types of stocks it works best for (large caps, small caps, special situations, ETFs, etc.)
* Any guardrails you use (e.g., “must cite sources,” “no price targets,” “separate facts vs assumptions,” etc.)
Thanks in advance — I’m trying to build something practical and repeatable, and I’d rather learn from people who’ve already tested what works.
