I'm fairly new to investing, just trying to learn as much as possible. I'm considering trying to specialize in a specific industry or sector, as I feel this is the best way to get an edge.
It strikes me that I own stock for many companies that I barely understand. In one of Peter Lynch's books he discusses trying to understand the stock you own so that you'll have enough conviction to hold through a downswing. I think this is important. I only have a basic understanding of semiconductors, for example, so if NVDA stock were to crash, I might listen to market sentiment and sell for a loss. I want to understand the stock I own.
Currently looking into regional banks. They often come up on my screeners, and I work in an adjacent field so I already know a bit about banking. These often have light coverage by analysts so it should be easier to find undervalued stock.
If I wanted to get a deep understanding of regional banking, for example, how should I go about doing this?
