Why does the market fall?

I know this is so dumb but why does the stock market fall after a bad event in the world or country? Is it because people think other people are going to sell as market usually goes down everytime something bad happens? Like is it a chain reaction? What if everyone just decides to not give a fuck and therefore not sell anything even if a bad news comes. wouldnt that mean the market will keep on rising and everyone makes money?
