I’ve been seeing a lot of people, including popular fin-influencers, tweeting that the government should reduce LTCG/STCG taxes because markets are struggling. Honestly, I don’t get this logic. Retail money kept pouring into equities without questioning valuations, earnings quality, or the broader macro environment. Risk was ignored when markets were euphoric, and now when returns aren’t easy, the blame suddenly shifts to taxes. Taxes were always known upfront, they didn’t appear overnight. Isn’t this just avoiding accountability for poor risk assessment and herd behaviour?
