Hello all, I purchased a thousand shares of Rocketlab in late 2024 in an old IRA. That $14,000 investment is now a little over 100k. While my greedy side says hold for 10 years, I also am feeling tremendously lucky and don’t want to get rugged having that entire portfolio in a company whose revenue does not justify such a high price.
I’m considering my options for derisking and maximizing this money. The most appealing to me is full porting to SCHD and doing DRIP. There’s a few ways to go about this.
The options I’ve considered:
\-convert simple IRA to traditional, make new contributions. I don’t think this is a real option, because I already have a retirement acct through my work and our household income is over the threshold.
\-converting to a Roth, paying the taxes now out of pocket. Starts with a smaller base, but the tax free nature is quite appealing. Investment limit is a turn off, and paying \~30k out of savings is certainly not sexy.
\-keep the money in the simple IRA, derisk within that account and simply focus on building up my individual account.
Any sound advice on the way forward?
