We had to retire from military life sooner than expected due to unexpected medical issues. I say "we" but really my spouse was AD, retiring 0-6. I have a college degree and worked as his career permitted, alternating between stay at home mom and career. We always maxed out ROTH IRAs over 23 years of marriage- so we have considerable retirement investments for our age (late 40s) and now a pension, VA disability (4 combat action deployments). We have always been in a saving mindset and I just don't know how to approach our next 10 years. No debts other than remaining 140K mortgage on a home worth 770K. It will be paid off under 15 years of a 30 y mortgage. If you have always been in a savings mindset, how hard is the transition to a spending mindset? We always think about our 2 children and their futures, college is covered and some other life expenses we can help out with... why am I now so stressed about spending money?? It feels so wrong even though we did everything so right... by the books!
