I’ve been focusing heavily on silver, and these are the metrics I’m watching to understand where this market might be headed. Posting this here to get feedback and checks.
1.The first thing I track is the silver:gold. If silver starts outperforming gold aggressively and the ratio drops rapidly below 50:1, it usually signals speculative momentum.
2.I’m also watching COMEX registered inventories very closely. If registered silver keeps falling, COMEX is more likely to increase margin requirements to reduce delivery risk. That can temporarily cap price.
On the flip side, if there’s a sudden large inflow into COMEX vaults, it signals that a large bank or institution is preparing to sell or short silver, or that metal is being moved in to ease delivery pressure.
3.China is another key piece. China controls a large share of silver refining and industrial demand, and whenever Shanghai silver trades at a strong premium to international prices, it points to regional physical tightness. Any changes in Chinese industrial policy or metals regulation tend to show up in silver before the rest of the market reacts.
And, with Asian physical premiums elevated, there’s a clear arbitrage incentive: buy paper silver cheaply in Western markets, take delivery, move it to Asia, and sell at a premium. This slowly drains Western vaults and increases structural stress in the futures market.
4.Also A strengthening US Dollar Index combined with signs of geopolitical stability increases the probability of a correction. A weakening dollar and rising uncertainty usually act as fuel.
5.I am also watching silver lease rates. If lease rates spike into the 5–10% range, it usually means there’s an acute physical shortage. Historically, this often leads to a sharp correction.
6.In the futures market, I pay close attention to price vs open interest. If price is rising while open interest is falling, the rally is likely being driven by short covering, not new long positions.
If I’m missing any major indicators - fundamental, technical, or structural framework, I’d appreciate hearing them. Trying to understand the plumbing of this market before it breaks.
Note: The current price of silver is about 92$ per ounce.
