Why does everyone have an obsession with VT?

Everyone who asks a question is met with “just buy VT!” It doesn’t have a history of great returns and if you want international exposure, just pick regional ETFs? If you really wanna take advantage of this international bull run, just reweight towards international equity, no? I don’t get it. Is it the low MER? If so, you guys are aware that returns are always listed net of fees/MER, right?
