Hi all, I’m not sure if this is the right thread to post this but I was hoping for some advice on my situation. I’m a student in the UK right now and have about $30k in a CD in the US which matures this year. I also have about £20k in a UK bank here which I’ve saved and I’d like to put in an investment account here. I know there are hurdles associated with that as a US citizen, but I was planning to call the firms which seem possibly open to that and see (Hargreaves Lansdown and interactive investors are the only ones that I have found which may accept me). My question is: when my CD matures, should I convert my savings from USD to GBP and move it to my UK investment account so that the “principle” or pot or whatever is a larger number and will compound more, or should I keep it in USD to avoid the conversion fees and invest it in a US account? I’m not sure where I will ultimately settle and which currency I would need money in, so I’m not sure what’s the better move. What would you all do? Thanks so much and apologies if this is the wrong sub!
