I just enrolled in the 401k at my new employer and wanted to get some feedback on the allocation I've chosen. I'll be rolling my previous 401k into this account and since I will likely now cross the IRA contribution limits I'll be rolling over my Trad IRA as well so that backdoor Roth becomes available. That means that this new 401k is going to contain a pretty significant chunk of my net worth so want to make sure not to screw it up.
Unsurprisingly, most of the funds available have high ER (>=0.4%) so I limited my choices to the iShares and Vanguard options which have ER<0.1%. However, that means that there is no VTI-like fund available. My goal was to allocate 55% to U.S. (split between the SP500, mid-cap, and small-cap funds), then I have 40% to VTIAX and 5% to VBTLX. I am 35 so not planning to retire any time soon, hence the low bond allocation.
