Well, using Yahoo Finance's database of historical equity share prices, I ran a few calculations on SLV. And, to no surprise, the volatility (i.e., "risk") has been quite a rollercoaster.
From 2006 to 2025, SLV has had a compound annual growth rate of 8.97%. All things considered not too bad.
However, the historical geometric standard deviation of those returns is an eye-popping 36.99%. Very volatile indeed.
But, again, this is no surprise because the price of this shiny metal has historically always been volatile. So, I'm sure lovers of silver and rollercoasters have had a great time!
