Hey everyone! My company’s 401k (I’m currently in Roth 401k) is with Vanguard and my current allocation is 60% FXAIX (large cap) 15% FSPSX (international), 15% FSMDX (mid cap), and 10% FSSNX (small cap). One of the investment options is VGSLX - Vanguard real estate investment trust.
My question is would this REIT be worth adding to my allocation as a small percent? I know it’s a sector fund and not diverse index fund. I also know it pays a high dividend each year and would like to have a mix of dividend growth, but mainly stick with growth funds as I’m only 33 years old. But I’ve been thinking about mixing in dividends so when I get older and closer to retirement I have funds that will generate passive income. I have investment knowledge, but by no means advanced knowledge and would like some insight on whether this would be a good idea to add or not. I appreciate any feedback/insight you all have!
