KOSPI technical rebound target around 2,700.
Min views the KOSPI rebound as a technical recovery and, using Fibonacci retracement, sees a rebound to around 2,700 as likely absent macro shocks. Further upside toward 2,750-2,800 would require long-term interest rates to fall or the Clarity Act to pass around 15 September. If long-term yields stay high and the index keeps rebounding, he suggests building a cash buffer.
Samsung shareholder return matches consensus, supports downside.
Samsung Electronics announced a 2024-2026 shareholder return policy using 50% of free cash flow, with remaining 2026 return expected at 90-110 trillion won and a 30 trillion won cash dividend planned for Q3 2026. Min says the size matches sell-side consensus around 110 trillion won, but because rumors had run to 150 trillion won and no special dividend was explicitly announced, the initial reaction is muted. He expects the real price move to emerge next week after the news-driven supply is digested, and the program can support downside.
SK Hynix buyback size limits downside.
SK Hynix's daily buyback of about 650,000 shares is substantial relative to average daily volume, roughly 8% of 8 million shares or 13% of 5 million shares. At that pace, the 24 million share buyback could finish in about 37 trading days, or about two months. Min expects this to put a floor under SK Hynix shares and limit downside, though fresh upside would require Nvidia earnings and Jackson Hole to provide momentum.
Gradually buy dollars in 1,300 won range.
Min sees recent won strength as mostly flow-driven, from SK Hynix ADR conversion inflows and exporter dollar conversion, rather than reflecting improving Korean fundamentals. Given Korea's fiscal expansion, aging demographics and overseas factory investment, he does not expect a long-term rising won trend. He suggests gradually accumulating dollars when USD/KRW is in the 1,300s rather than converting all at once.
KOSDAQ stays difficult while rates remain high.
Min says KOSDAQ rotation will struggle as long as long-term rates stay at current high levels. In a safety-seeking environment, funds are concentrated in large-cap Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, while smaller companies are more exposed to interest costs and debt burdens. KOSDAQ is therefore likely to remain difficult unless rates fall.
Won strength favors importers in Q3.
Because the average won was around 1,500 in Q2 but has since fallen to the 1,300s, Min expects Q3 earnings to slow for exporters that benefited from the weak won, while importers of overseas raw materials, especially food, refining and energy companies, should see relative improvement from lower imported input costs.

Nvidia earnings are next semiconductor upside catalyst.
Min says the downside for Korean semiconductor leaders is being defended by buybacks, and the next upside trigger is next week's Nvidia earnings plus Jackson Hole. If Nvidia shows AI-related growth remains strong and the Fed's message matches market expectations, semiconductor shares can make an upward move within their range.
