Ideas
Debbie Dingell Congresswoman, Michigan's 6th District 15:20
Favor US autos on policy support
Dingell argues the US domestic auto industry needs policy certainty and a level playing field with China. She supports tariffs against China over alleged currency manipulation, subsidies, and slave labor, and wants a stable environment so the industry remains affordable and a global leader.
Lanhee Chen Stanford University Hoover Institution Fellow 22:38
Pentagon focus lifts defense industrial base
Chen says the Pentagon's focus in Texas signals where the Defense Department will direct attention over the next several months and years—toward expanding the American industrial base, procurement reform, and leadership in technology for kinetic and 21st-century technological warfare. That points to a policy tailwind for the US defense industrial base.

Chevron, Repsol benefit from Venezuela opening
Chevron is the incumbent that has operated in Venezuela for 100 years and toughed out the difficult period. McNally says Chevron and Repsol could achieve targets for roughly 50% higher production in the next year or two if safety/security improves and sanctions are eased.
Bob McNally President and Founder, Rapidan Energy Group 31:13
Venezuela oil is conditional reopening play
McNally says Venezuelan oil is best understood in three buckets: roughly 30 million stored barrels that can be marketed relatively easily; low-hanging-fruit production if Chevron gets a license and the government stabilizes; and long-term production of millions of barrels a day requiring decades and tens of billions of dollars. The long-term opportunity remains uninvestable now but could become viable with a stable regime, favorable commercial terms, improved US relations, sanctions relief, and basic safety/security.

US Gulf refiners key for Venezuela crude
Venezuela's heavy sour crude is like molasses and must be treated, but US Gulf Coast complex refiners already process similar grades from Mexico and Canada and have the logistics, engineering, and financial wherewithal to crack it into gasoline and diesel. They are therefore key to bringing Venezuela back into the market.
