Summary

The panel discusses a strong KOSPI rally to just below 7,000 led by semiconductors, with SK Hynix breaking resistance and Samsung Electronics participating. Yu Chang-hee argues the semiconductor turn is beginning, sets KOSPI targets toward 7,500, and highlights semiconductor equipment, power equipment, and secondary batteries while turning cautious on cosmetics. Myeong Min-jun adds a supportive U.S. political and stock market view, while Seo Su-jin urges near-term caution until key events pass.

  • KOSPI rose 4.6% to close at 6,995, testing the 7,000 box top; Yu sees a path toward 7,500.
  • SK Hynix broke its 178,000-won resistance and could target 195,000-200,000.
  • Semiconductors led the rally, with Oracle, Nvidia, and Korean semiconductor equipment names cited positively.
  • Doosan Enerbility and BHI are viewed as having continuing power-equipment momentum.
  • Cosmetics leaders were flagged as vulnerable; L&F and secondary batteries were seen as buyable.
  • Myeong expects U.S. equities to stay supported into November, while Seo prefers waiting for FOMC, CPI, and earnings.
  • KOSDAQ is a watch item above 830.
Ideas
KOSPI breaking toward 7,500; buy pullbacks.
KOSPI's close at 6,995 is a meaningful test of the box top around 7,000. Yu sees the prior Thursday low as unlikely to break, opening a path toward 7,500. Heavy retail selling was absorbed by foreign, institutional, and pension buying; he would actively buy while KOSPI holds above 6,800 and use a close below 6,800 as the stop, buying pullbacks into the gap.
SK Hynix broke resistance; target 195,000-200,000.
SK Hynix finally closed above 178,000 won after being rejected at that level three times. Yu expects further closes above 180,000, opening a new box roughly between 175,000 and 195,000, and possibly 200,000 this month. He would buy pullbacks.
Semiconductor turn has arrived; buy dips.
Yu argues the semiconductor turn has arrived: Korean semis led the whole market, Micron and SanDisk rallied, AI catalysts added sentiment, Broadcom earnings did not damage semiconductor investment appetite, and in a high-rate regime semis are the sector that actually earns money. He says not to sell semis aggressively and to buy dips.
Samsung Electronics has room toward 280,000-290,000.
Samsung Electronics also has its 60-day moving average and box top around 280,000-290,000 won. Although it has already rallied and pulled back, that upside zone remains open if the semiconductor turn continues.
US equities likely strong into November.
Myeong argues the usual pre-midterm weakness will reverse: because Trump's approval is low and the administration needs a high stock market, the U.S. market is unlikely to break. He expects September-October to be good, with a potential turn after mid-November. If U.S. equities hold, Korean equities can stay supported.
Oracle and Nvidia support semiconductor turn.
Yu sees Oracle's chart as reviving and attempting to break out toward new highs, while Nvidia is making another run at its record high. This supports his broader view that the semiconductor turn is underway.
Doosan Enerbility power equipment momentum continues.
Yu reads the strong action in Doosan Enerbility and BHI positively despite government comments that US investment details are not confirmed. He argues the power generation equipment investment itself is certain and faster to generate cash than nuclear or Alaska LNG projects, so momentum can continue.
L&F drop is a buying opportunity.
Yu treats L&F's drop on the convertible bond issuance news as a buying opportunity because the proceeds are for facility investment, the issuance size was reduced from 500 billion won to 300 billion won, and institutional investors are likely to bid actively.
Secondary battery sector still can rise.
Yu says the broader secondary battery sector has not topped: despite L&F's adjustment, POSCO Future M, EcoPro, LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK Innovation all held flat, so the group can run again.
Avoid cosmetics as season and momentum fade.
Yu turns cautious on cosmetics: Dalba broke a key level and Silicon2 corrected hard over several sessions. The sector's high season is passing, the stronger won is squeezing export margins for smaller players, and these names should rest while the broader market pushes toward 7,000.
Korean semiconductor equipment names remain attractive.
If the semiconductor turn continues, Korean semiconductor equipment and materials names can work. PSK Holdings is near new highs; HPSP and EO Technics still have room; TCK is in a tight period adjustment that could break out once it gathers energy.
KOSDAQ setup turns bullish above 830.
Yu sees KOSDAQ holding despite large-cap strength. If it breaks 830, it can revive significantly. He is more positive on KOSDAQ semis, secondary batteries, and energy, while biotech likely waits for FOMC.
