Humanoid, autonomous driving are next AI devices.
The core global agenda is AI. Data-center investment is only the early phase; for AI to spread into industry, it needs mass-market devices. The clearest candidates are humanoid robots and autonomous driving, both of which also help offset population decline. These could become the PC/smartphone-like devices that expand the AI cycle.
Hyundai is a top AI device leader.
Hyundai Motor Group is one of only two companies, along with Tesla, well prepared to build, mass-produce, and sell the key AI devices—humanoid robots and autonomous vehicles. At CES, Hyundai's humanoid technology did not lag Tesla; Atlas targets industrial use while Optimus targets home use, but the markets will overlap. Valuation is not stretched: PBR below 1.1 and P/E around 11-12x versus Tesla's much higher multiples, with a concrete humanoid revenue schedule and potential valuation benchmarks; the speaker has not sold and sees 800k-900k won or higher after consolidation.
Avoid Korean semiconductor equipment/materials.
The speaker is not interested in Korean semiconductor materials/equipment. In a big-cycle industry, the original manufacturers outperform component suppliers, as seen in shipbuilding. Materials/equipment names are polarized—some make new highs while others can reverse—so the risk/reward is inferior to simply owning the large IDMs.
Large memory IDMs beat equipment names.
In the memory cycle, large IDMs are better risk/reward than component/materials-equipment names. Memory remains in shortage, major makers are reluctant to add aggressive new capacity because of China catch-up risk and uncertainty over when the AI cycle ends, and they prefer gradual or acquired capacity. This supports pricing and a likely re-rating of legacy DRAM/NAND multiples; Samsung cutting NAND output and raising prices reinforces it. The speaker therefore says owning Samsung Electronics and SK hynix is cost-effective, and selling them may be the riskier choice.
Korean biotech remains a key overweight.
After earnings season, attention should shift to KOSDAQ and especially biotech. Supply/demand has returned after being washed out, and the speaker plans to increase bio weight. He favors 'real bio' platform companies with genuine technology and concretizing global big pharma collaborations, with the biosecurity law and capacity-expansion themes supporting earnings expectations.
Samsung Biologics earnings shock is opportunity.
Samsung Biologics' capacity-expansion issue appears to have been cleared by its earnings release. Although the speaker viewed the earnings as a shock even as the market raised targets, he thinks the event can become an opportunity, with biosecurity-law and expansion themes supporting future earnings expectations.
Watch large-cap Korean steel on cuts.
Steel is worth watching. Production-cut news lifted the sector, and some steel names also have lithium exposure and trade below book value. Government legislation aimed at low-PBR companies could target holding companies and steel. If playing steel, the speaker prefers well-known large-cap steel companies over small or distribution-linked names.
Watch Korean holding companies on low-PBR law.
Low-PBR legislation could make Korean holding companies and steel companies key targets. The speaker does not name individual holding companies but flags them as worth monitoring for policy-driven re-rating potential.
Maintain shipbuilding, defense, nuclear portfolio.
The speaker has grouped shipbuilding, defense, and nuclear power as his core portfolio since last year and advises maintaining that portfolio rather than trading around it. Shipbuilding remains an example of a large-cycle theme where the main builders outperformed equipment suppliers and recovered after a temporary pause.
