Summary

Zach Pandl of Grayscale and Michael Bucella of Neoclassic Capital discuss the crypto rebound ahead of the Clarity Act vote. They see Bitcoin supported by spot/ETF demand and a leverage reset, while regulatory clarity benefits Ethereum, Solana, and Hyperliquid. They are cautious on altcoin leverage and toxic longtail altcoin treasury structures, and expect crypto ETFs and allocation flows to keep growing.

  • Michael Bucella sees Bitcoin accumulation supported by spot and ETF buying, call option demand, and reduced futures leverage.
  • He flags altcoin open interest and leverage as worrisome near pre-October 2025 levels and advises caution out the risk curve.
  • Zach Pandl attributes crypto demand to scarcity/debasement hedging and regulatory clarity.
  • Regulatory clarity is seen benefiting Ethereum, Solana, and Hyperliquid even if the Clarity Act itself is delayed.
  • Grayscale's Pandl calls crypto ETFs an easy button that will capture rising share of the crypto asset class.
  • Bucella warns longtail altcoin treasury companies were toxic and burned retail investors.
  • Pandl says a crypto allocation trade is beginning as investors diversify concentrated equity and AI exposure.
Ideas

Accumulate Bitcoin after healthy leverage reset
The August 19 washout flushed leverage via short liquidations, while spot and ETF buying followed through, call-skew options open interest increased, and futures open interest fell. That combination shows real incremental demand to own Bitcoin, with 83,000-86,000 as the next supply zone to clear; if cleared, Bitcoin is in healthier territory, so he would accumulate Bitcoin incrementally and be more cautious further out the risk curve.

Be cautious on altcoin risk
Altcoin open interest and leverage are getting worrisome, and total leverage open interest is roughly back to levels seen before the October 2025 crash. He is not calling for an imminent collapse, but says investors should tread carefully and be more cautious as they go out the risk curve beyond Bitcoin.

Scarcity demand supports gold and Bitcoin
The two fundamental drivers for crypto remain demand for scarcity and regulatory clarity. Demand for scarcity, driven by fiat currency risks from unchecked government debt growth, is pushing investors into scarce assets such as physical gold and digital Bitcoin.

Regulatory clarity boosts Ethereum, Solana, Hyperliquid
Regulatory clarity from the White House, SEC, and CFTC is moving ahead even without the Clarity Act and benefits the broader crypto ecosystem, particularly smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Solana and perpetual futures platforms like Hyperliquid.
Zach Pandl Head of Research, Grayscale 9:12
Crypto ETFs capture rising crypto share
Crypto ETFs package liquidity, custody, tax, and estate planning into a single low-cost product, making them the easy button for crypto investing. ETFs will continue to capture a rising share of the crypto asset class because they make investing straightforward for any investor.
Michael Bucella Managing Partner, Neoclassic Capital 11:04
Avoid toxic longtail altcoin treasury structures
The lack of broad regulatory clarity led to overissuance of public holding companies for the long tail of altcoins and a bubble in digital asset treasury issuance last year. Many of those structures were toxic and burned retail investors, so the obscure longtail altcoin treasury exposure should be avoided.
