Structural decline for China duty-free operators.
China duty-free retailers face a structural headwind as Chinese outbound travel recovers post-COVID. More travelers choosing overseas destinations permanently reduces spending at domestic duty-free stores like those in Hainan. This shift is expected to persist as income growth continues to support international travel.
Deeply oversold Tencent offers 40% upside.
Tencent valuation has compressed sharply with forward PE around 12x and market cap deeply discounted. Despite near-term capex burden concerns, the company owns a massive 1.45 billion user ecosystem across WeChat and other platforms, and its AI monetization potential is large. Analyst target price implies about 40% upside, reflecting confidence that Tencent will eventually convert investment into revenue and earnings growth.
Rotate into US defensives and energy.
Geopolitical tensions and rising oil are driving a clear sector rotation out of technology into defensive and energy names. Funds are not leaving the market but rotating into consumer staples and energy, with numerous 52-week highs in those groups. Consumer staples (Walmart, PG, Coca-Cola, Costco) and energy (ExxonMobil, Chevron, Occidental, EOG) show relative strength and offer stable returns amid macro uncertainty.
TSMC record revenue confirms AI demand strength.
TSMC posted record June and Q2 revenue, with June sales surging 68% year-over-year. Full Q2 revenue beat consensus and company guidance. AI chip demand remains robust, with 3nm capacity reportedly sold out. The upcoming earnings call will likely highlight strong margins and positive forward guidance.
Bearish Bitcoin amid weak technicals and sentiment.
Bitcoin is in a short-term bearish setup: it has decisively broken below the 200-week moving average, the Fear & Greed Index signals extreme fear, and liquidity concerns from private credit markets and large tech debt issuance add pressure. Additionally, key crypto regulatory bill (GENIUS Act) passage odds are declining due to the loss of supportive senators, further delaying institutional inflows.
Avoid MSTR due to dilution and confusion.
MicroStrategy is sending confusing and dilutive signals. Instead of selling Bitcoin to raise cash as previously indicated, the company sold additional common stock, increasing dilution and hurting shareholders. The business model as a Bitcoin proxy is becoming murky, which raises the risk of MSCI index exclusion. This fundamentally undermines the investment case for MSTR stock.
Buy Philadelphia Semiconductor Index on dip.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has dropped 15.6% from its high, matching the maximum drawdown seen in prior non-recession corrections, including the March 2025 geopolitical dip and the 2023 rate spike period. Historically, 15% drops in the index have been followed by strong bounces as long as the AI spending cycle remains intact. Current capex and hyperscaler spending continue to rise, suggesting this drawdown is a buying opportunity.
Buy Samsung and SK Hynix on correction.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have corrected 32% and 38% from highs, reaching historically attractive levels. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index typically rebounds after 15% drawdowns, and fundamental AI demand remains intact. Concerns about LTA and peak margins are overblown; long-term agreements actually lock in high-margin revenues. The KOSPI is near the low end of the projected 6,300-9,300 range, offering asymmetric risk/reward with downside contained and significant recovery potential as the memory cycle remains favorable.
Buy KOSPI at 6,800 for asymmetric upside.
The KOSPI has fallen to around 6,800, which sits at the low end of the forecasted 6,300-9,300 annual range. Downside from here is only about 6% to 6,300, while a reversal back toward the mid-range of 7,800-9,800 offers over 15% upside. Seasonal weakness in Q3, high beta nature, and forced deleveraging have created an attractive risk/reward entry, especially as retail panic selling often marks a bottom.
