Summary

Jung Woo-chang of NH Investment & Securities argues investors should focus on the long AI and semiconductor cycle rather than short-term supply and demand swings. He compares AI to the internet cycle, says Korean memory leaders Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix remain undervalued, highlights accelerating U.S. earnings and Big Tech cash flow strength, and notes Tesla FSD as evidence that physical AI is reaching an adoption inflection.

  • Korean market trades higher led by semiconductor equipment and memory names, but the guest urges focusing on long-term fundamentals.
  • The AI cycle is compared to the 1990s internet cycle, and the guest argues AI is stronger and still early.
  • Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell 40-50% while earnings and memory prices improved; HBM is described as the AI infrastructure bottleneck.
  • U.S. S&P 500 EPS growth accelerated and Big Tech cloud and RPO metrics are cited as strong.
  • Alphabet's negative free cash flow headline is argued to be overblown given its cash holdings and operating cash flow.
  • Tesla FSD is presented as a real physical-AI adoption moment, though not an explicit stock recommendation.
  • The guest maintains long-term positions and suggests steady accumulation rather than trading short-term volatility.

Buy Samsung monthly below 300,000 won
Despite Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix falling 40-50%, he argues earnings were not downgraded. Memory prices kept rising, large contracts were announced, and earnings calls guided to next-year shortages. He says memory is the real AI infrastructure bottleneck and HBM should receive GPU-type valuation; applying a reasonable multiple to HBM earnings alone could make their market caps at least 50% higher.
AI cycle will surpass internet cycle
He argues the AI cycle will exceed the internet cycle because AI is already generating revenue and cost savings across industries. Historically the Nasdaq rose 533% in five years and Cisco rose 42x despite multiple 30-50% drawdowns, and he believes the current AI cycle is still early with a steep earnings inflection ahead.
Nvidia valuation not bubble-like
He uses Nvidia as the AI leader and argues it is not like Cisco at the internet peak: Cisco traded over 100x earnings at its peak, while Nvidia trades around 20x despite last-quarter revenue growth above 70%. He sees semiconductor earnings as not yet fully reflected in prices.
KOSPI earnings uptrend supports further upside
He sees the Korean market in a new uptrend and says applying peak-out logic to KOSPI earnings is premature. Annual net profit crossed 200 trillion won in 2025 and is forecast to approach 1,000 trillion won by 2027, with other sectors such as batteries, cosmetics, shipbuilding, defense and power equipment also improving.
Alphabet cash flow fears are overblown
Alphabet's negative free cash flow headline is misleading: it generated 50 trillion won in operating cash flow, invested 58 trillion won, sits on 350 trillion won of cash, and its debt remains low. He also cites Warren Buffett's participation in Alphabet's equity offering and big-tech revenue and EPS growth and RPO backlog as evidence that AI infrastructure spending is rational.
Tesla FSD adoption inflection is real
After personally using Tesla FSD on a long trip, he believes a physical-AI and autonomous-driving inflection has arrived. FSD now works well enough that users are reluctant to go back, and used Tesla prices are rising as buyers place value on autonomous capability. He explicitly says this is not a stock recommendation but presents it as a real adoption moment tied to Tesla's ecosystem.
