Intervention and BOJ hike floor the yen.
The U.S. agreed to joint intervention partly because it is concerned about rising Treasury yields—Japan’s large FX reserve sales were adding upward pressure on yields. At the same time, the Bank of Japan’s reaction function is shifting, with a rate hike now likely in September and another in January 2027, providing fundamental support for the yen and making a move back above 160 dollar-yen difficult.

AI productivity favors U.S. dollar.
Over the longer term, successful AI implementation will deliver a productivity benefit. If the U.S. is the primary beneficiary of that AI-driven productivity gain, relative productivity dynamics will be clearly positive for the U.S. dollar.
Novo weight-loss drug may fuel upgrade.
Novo Nordisk's latest weight-loss drug launch is showing strong uptake, suggesting a guidance upgrade may be announced at its upcoming results. Combined with survey data showing doctors are more positive on Wegovy relative to Eli Lilly’s pill than previously expected, the earnings report looks to be a significant positive catalyst worth watching.
