Trevor Bennett Co-founder, Starfish Space This Week in Startups
Small servicing spacecraft with validated contracts.
Starfish Space is building Otter, a small 300 kg spacecraft that can autonomously rendezvous and dock with other satellites using a single lightweight camera and on-board software. Its Nautilus capture mechanism can attach to any spacecraft geometry without modifying the target, and Starfish plans to own and operate the fleet as a service rather than selling spacecraft, which lets it keep improving autonomy across the fleet. The company has validated the tech with the Remora autonomous rendezvous and Otter Prop 2, and has won a $52.5M Space Development Agency disposal contract plus a prior $37M Space Force contract.
