DRAM upturn stronger than NAND.
Lee sees the memory cycle tilting toward DRAM more than NAND. Recent sell-side reports suggest DRAM can continue higher while NAND is questionable, spot NAND price gains are decelerating, and SK hynix selling Kioxia may reflect a NAND top. Even small-cap semiconductor names are confirming the market prefers DRAM exposure.

Memory shortage drives DRAM and NAND prices
Since late 2025, memory prices have risen across HBM and legacy DRAM and NAND due to supply shortage. 2026 supply is already contracted, suppliers have strong pricing power, DRAM contract prices are above $10 versus $3 to $4 cost and spot prices have exceeded $20 to $30, and NAND is also up sharply. The shortage supports memory prices and makers through 2027.

Nvidia ICMS tightens NAND supply
Nvidia's new Inference Context Memory Storage adds a large SSD tier to the compute rack, adding about 16TB per Rubin and potentially about 64 exabytes of NAND demand. This would lift NAND demand growth to around 30% against roughly 20% supply growth and strengthen the NAND shortage; he estimates the new tier alone adds 5-7% to total NAND demand and 15-20% of the relevant NAND demand.

Memory industry faces extreme shortage across DRAM/NAND.
Rizzo says the entire memory industry is in extreme shortage right now, whether DRAM or NAND, with tightness across the entire memory supply chain. Demand is inelastic, memory prices are up 50-80% quarter-over-quarter, and because many contracts were written six months ago, the earnings impact will take a few quarters to play out.
