Ackman and Knighthead Capital Management collectively lock up roughly 79.8% of Hertz’s economic exposure and share structure, significantly shrinking the public float.Breakdown of StakesKnighthead Capital Management: Holds a staggering \~59% stake (roughly 181.5 million shares) originating from its post-bankruptcy backing and turnaround restructuring of the company.Bill Ackman (Pershing Square): Holds a 19.8% stake, which is accumulated through a combination of direct share ownership and total return swaps.Combined with other major institutional blocks (such as Vanguard), these concentrated positions leave a very thin remaining public float available for regular trading.
