The country’s Financial Services Commission will temporarily suspend new listings of leveraged products tied to individual stocks.
The move follows the launch of more than a dozen ETFs designed to deliver 2x the daily returns of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
Regulators and market participants are concerned that the funds are amplifying price swings through the large daily trades required to maintain their leverage.
The new rules:
→ No new listings until conditions stabilize
→ Minimum account balance raised from $6500 to $20,300
→ Required training increased to three hours
→ Minimum trade size raised from one unit to 20
The higher deposit requirement is expected to take effect on August 5.
EXISTING ETFS ARE NOT BEING BANNED.
