# Iran building up defenses of Kharg Island to protect against potential US ground attack, sources say
>Iran has been laying traps and moving additional military personnel and air defenses to Kharg Island in recent weeks in preparation for a possible US operation to take control of the island, according to multiple people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue.
Iran has also been laying traps including anti-personnel and anti-armor mines around the island, the sources said, **including on the shoreline where US troops could possibly stage an amphibious landing** if President Donald Trump moved forward with a ground operation.

>**Two Marine Expeditionary Units and Amphibious Ready Groups have also recently deployed to the region, bringing significant firepower and military options**. CNN reported last week that the 11th MEU and Boxer Amphibious Ready Group were having their scheduled deployments accelerated and rerouted from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East, where the 31st MEU and Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group were also deploying.
The ARG-MEUs come with roughly 4,500 Marines and sailors each and bring a range of capabilities outside of on-the-ground support, **including substantial aviation and logistics components.**
It appears that the hypothesis that the US deployment of military assets and personnel from the Asia Pacific to the Strait of Hormuz, more true than not, supports the Trump admin's plan to breach the shoreline of Kharg island, with Iran already anticipating this.
At this point, it should be clear that the current administration is pathologically lying through its teeth, regarding any positive negotiations, as part of their attempt to protect the false impression of a vibrant US economy.
The time scale for negotiations are often progress in weeks and months, not days or seconds.
Does anyone thinks this could come on Good Friday, Monday or over the weekends?
Edit:
Iran can never contest the US or the coalition in air superiority due to sanctions which has impeded their technological progress over 5 decades. But what they can, is ground operation with which they can exploit their knowledge of the mountainous regions, undergrounds and guerrilla warefare.
To put things in simple perspective: Iraq is 1/4 times the landmass of Iran, with ground forces much inferior than Iran in size and capabilities - it is clear where the US went with this.
Above all, the consistent outcome is this: US foreign policies does not insulate themselves from attacks on domestic soil. As history have shown, US foreign policies continues to endanger the lives of Americans and the internationals.
This will only be another long - drawn out war of attribution with nothing to show for, except for a global recession, sky - high inflation and a global transition into a multi - polar world. Here's the final thing: while there are no "good actors" in this theatrics, the Iranians are far more resilient to pain, as decade of sanctions have shown, but the same cannot be said about the US economy or the ordinary Americans.
