The unusually low interest rates of the past sustained unproductive firms, suppressing the normal reallocation of resources to more successful companies. As rates normalize, that reallocation and underlying productivity growth will resume, lifting trend growth. Investors should not be pessimistic about the UK's long-run outlook.
